A response to Designers Speak (up)’s poster call to record the current landscape of women in design.
This pieces addresses gender inequality within New Zealand sport, with female athletes being severely misrepresented in the media and having very little opportunity to go professional. On the other hand, males athletes are in a position of power and opportunity to succeed, hence the ‘ball being in his court’.The subversion of the basketball court reinforces this by showing that this dominance is ingrained into the system as if it is part of the rules. Through this lighthearted yet confrontational piece, I hope to spark a dialogue about the value of female athletes in New Zealand.
This piece responds to Designers Speak (Up) open call to the Directory of Women* Designers to make a poster addressing a social or cultural issue, as a way or creating visibility and diversity within Aotearoa’s design landscape.
